Avoid unnecessary clogs and tangles through proper setup procedures. ESAB’s “Octagon” Marathon Pac™ is arguably the most trouble-free bulk wire package available in the welding industry today. In some cases however, when the Marathon Pac is not setup properly, some users may unintentionally put themselves at risk of wire tangles and clogged liners. Some Marathon Pacs include a small square of foam material in the top and bottom of the drum. This material exhibits properties that prevent rust from forming on the wire while the product is stored or warehoused. Once the drum is opened the rust inhibiting properties of this material are lost. Before the Marathon Pac is placed into service, the foam must be removed from the drum as the material will no longer be effective. When left in the drum the foam material can interfere with the wire causing tangles as wire is pulled from the drum. It can also fray or deteriorate leaving small particles that adhere to the wire which have the potential to build up inside of liners causing clogging or rough feeding. So next time you go to setup a Marathon Pac taking a few extra seconds to remove this foam material from the drum can save you downtime and frustration caused by preventable tangles or liner clogs.
