ESAB RECEIVES GOLD MEDAL AWARD Defense Supply Center Richmond Honors ESAB for Valued Performance
ESAB Welding & Cutting Products received recognition as one of the government’s best suppliers. The Defense System Supply Center Richmond (DSCR) honored ESAB with the Gold Medal Best Value Award at ceremony held on June 7, 2005 during the center’s annual business conference.
Bob Fernicola, ESAB’s Plasma Business Manager, accepted the Gold Medal Award on behalf of ESAB from the commander of the supply center, Navy Rear Adm. Mike Lyden. ESAB supplies plasma cutters to the Department of Defense and other government agencies. This year ESAB fulfilled orders for the US-produced PCM-875 plasma cutting system. One important use of the PCM-875 is to fortify Humvees in Iraq.
“It is an honor to receive this award. ESAB is pleased to provide a product line that offers the reliable performance that the government has complete confidence in,” said Fernicola. “We are equally proud that ESAB is doing its part to protect our soldiers.”
Companies, like ESAB Welding and Cutting Products, that qualify as Automated Best Value System medalists have met stringent quality and delivery requirement established by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). The Automated Best Value computerized system collects a vendor’s past performance data and translates it into a numeric score ranging from zero to 100.
To be eligible, vendors must have shipped 10 or more contract lines for DSCR during a 12-month period. To qualify for a gold medal, a contractor must score a perfect 100. Vendors must also have a DLA rating of 95 or better. THE DSCR also awards silver and bronze metals.

In October 2004, DSCR became the Defense Logistics Agency’s aviation supply chain manager. With this expanded responsibility, DSCR serves with the Department of Defense supply-chain as the primary source of supply for more that 1.2 million repair parts and operating supply items, with a core mission of supplying products with a direct application to aviation.
