Position Summary and Responsibilities:
Optimize the use of company assets in the acquisition of finished goods, packaging and other supplies necessary for manufacturing operations. Formulates short and long-term strategies to ensure quality and continuity of supply while minimizing total costs. Performs these activities for all ESAB Welding and Cutting consumables factories in North America.
Responsibilities include:
Works with marketing to communicate demand forecasts with suppliers.
Tracks and reports status of shipments / deliveries to customer service.
Communicates effectively with Production, Engineering and Suppliers to resolve quality or delivery problems.
Develops sources, solicits and negotiates competitive quotations for raw materials and finished product purchases.
Coordinates North American activities within ESAB Global Sourcing teams to develop long / short-term strategies for commodity groups
Maintains close working relationships with vendors to ensure cooperation.
Interviews and evaluates suppliers through supplier visits.
Uses objective performance measurements such as on-time delivery, service and price.
Consolidates requirements and develops most suitable method of purchase such as spot buys, contracts, blanket orders, and supplier stocking arrangements.
Advises management of market conditions affecting pricing and/or delivery.
Maintains necessary records pertaining to quotations, items purchased, cost, delivery and product performance.
Scope and Nature:
Procurement of finished goods from ESAB facilities. (~40%)
Leadership of Supply Chain Lean / Six Sigma improvement projects. (~30%)
Development of new raw material sources, both domestic and international. (~30%)
Minimum Qualifications:
BS in industrial / engineering concentration plus business experience or a Bachelor's in business plus industrial purchasing experience or equivalent experience.
Project Management skills with experience managing multiple commodity groups across multiple manufacturing locations.
Broad experience in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma environments. Certified Black Belt with proven project leadership recommended.
Must have 5 plus years purchasing experience, including international sourcing, with relevant supervisory experience.
Possess high level understanding of international shipping and trade regulations.
Possess excellent computer skills, working in an MRP environment, with advanced experience using Microsoft Office product (MS Project / Excel / Access).
Foreign Language experience (Spanish / Chinese) is a plus.
Strong interpersonal skills - position must coordinate effectively with internal / external individuals worldwide.
Must be able to generate effective communications and develop good relationships.
Travel will be required (approximately 10 to 20 percent) to various supplier locations.
Display positive image with suppliers and coworkers.
Excellent leadership and organizational skills.

Position Summary and Responsibilities:
Optimize the use of company assets in the acquisition of finished goods, packaging and other supplies necessary for manufacturing operations. Formulates short and long-term strategies to ensure quality and continuity of supply while minimizing total costs. Performs these activities for all ESAB Welding and Cutting consumables factories in North America.
Responsibilities include:
Prepares own set up of machine, plate and weld specimens for completion of test.
Welds test specimens in flat, vertical and overhead position to determine operating characteristics, chemical composition, radiographic quality, and mechanical properties.
Selects the most effective parameters and technique to be used within the guidelines of the governing specification.
Works with an engineer to evaluate quality of weld and conformance to requirements for customer sales testing, and research.
Notifies supervisor or engineers of electrodes being tested that do not meet the weldability standards of ESAB.
Works with supervisor in maintaining proper inventory level of supplies (plate, tips, gas cups, etc.)
Operates a variety of complex laboratory equipment.
Performs a variety of laboratory tests of materials.
Assist supervision in scheduling flow of work and assurance that assignments are completed.
Duties may vary, depending upon the area of work and the assignments of that area or areas.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum of High School diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of 3-5 years of job related experience in welding.
Requires excellent skills in all types of welding, knowledge of metals, ability to determine technique and equipment to be used.
Must be able to weld MIG, TIG flux cored and stick in all positions.
Needs to be familiar with our various specifications governing weld metal testing.
Good knowledge of mathematics and/or mechanical aptitude.
