8 Fit-up of Joints to be Welded The fit-up of the joint selected for any welding job materially affects the quality, strength and appearance of the finished weld. The following section is devoted to a discussion of the effects of fit-up on weld quality. The examples do not illustrate the entire range of submerged arc welding applications but the principles described can be applied to all types of joints.
