the Workpieces a) The
most suitable type of joint design for the particular welding is
determined. The metal edges are prepared,
shaped, and cleaned. b)
Weld backing (if the joint is not structure-backed) is placed under
the seam. c) The
pieces to be welded are placed in position for welding. Usually
they are tacked welded, clamped together or held in jigs to
maintain the desired position.
