Titania -   The synthetic form of titanium dioxide (TiO2).  In this text the terms rutile and titania have the same significance. Root Pass -   The initial weld bead deposited in a multi-pass weld requiring high weld integrity. Root Opening -   The intentional gap between members to be joined to assure 100% penetra- tion in groove type welds.
