30 All-State RG45, RG60 and RG65 Steel Rods for Oxy-fuel Welding General Characteristics All rods meet AWS A5.2 and require no flux. RG45 deposits a ductile and easily machinable lower strength weld (45 ksi). Copper finish. RG60 has strengths in excess of 60 ksi. Oiled (bare) finish. RG65 is a low alloy steel rod designed for welding materials in the 65-75 ksi range. Oiled (bare) finish. Typical Applications Use RG45 on steel plate, sheet and pipe where high strength is not required. Also for wrought iron. Use RG 60 to weld steel plates and structural shapes in the 50-60 ksi range and on steel pipe and castings. Use RG65 for high speed fusion welding of pressure vessels, tanks and pipe. Average weld tensile strength range is 70-80 ksi, as welded; up to 200 ksi when heat treated. Procedures Clean joint area. Bevel heavy sections. Adjust torch to neutral flame. Keep torch tip at low angle to base metal. Pre-heat normally not necessary. Diameter and Packaging 1/16" (1.6 mm), 3/32" (2.4 mm), and 1/8" (3.2 mm) in  5-lb (2.27 kg) and 50 lb. (22.68 kg) containers.
