All-State Steelarc Plus® High Performance Electrode for Mild Steel AC or DC Reverse (Electrode +) or Straight Polarity (Electrode –) All Position General Characteristics All-State Steelarc Plus® gives smooth, spatter-free, x-ray quality welds, even under rusty, oily, dirty, painted or other adverse conditions. An exclusive coating provides a gaseous shield to protect the weld deposit and adjacent area from brittleness. Light gauge material can be welded to heavy steels without the problem of burn-through. This is accomplished by the stable arc and unique wide current ranges of this electrode. Typical Applications Excellent for welding of sheets, plates, angles, beams, channels and joining of all mild steel structures. Widely used in maintenance repair work where time does not permit proper fit-up or cleaning of base metal, yet a sound, dependable joint is required. Qualities Tensile strength    —up to 76,000 psi (53.45 kgs/mm2) Yield strength       —up to 65,000 psi (45.71 kgs/mm2) Elongation in 2"     —24 to 26% Procedures Removing as much foreign material from base metal before welding will decrease smoking during welding and permit welder to have better visibility and improve quality of weld. Reverse polarity will produce deep penetration while straight polarity will cause weld metal to flow out more. Weaving is seldom necessary except in welding vertical up. A short arc will reduce heat buildup in the base metal and keep distortion to a minimum. When making numerous passes, such as building up a part, the slag can be easily removed between passes by light chipping.
