13 All-State® Silicon Bronze (Bare) *Silicon Bronze—Bare Filler Wire Tungsten Inert Gas or Carbon Arc Application General Characteristics A bare filler material used for TIG and carbon arc brazing or welding. Typical Applications All-State® Silicon Bronze is used to fabricate and join silicon bronzes, copper alloys and some iron-base metals. It has relatively high strength, ductility, free-flowing and crack resistant characteristics. All-State® Silicon Bronze is particularly suited for surfaces exposed to corrosion (not recommended for bearing surfaces). It has wide use in joining thin gauge galvanized steel, such as employed in the heating and air conditioning industry. Qualities Tensile strength —up to 58,000 psi (40.79 kgs/mm2) Yield strength —up to 25,000 psi (17.58 kgs/mm2) Elongation in 2" —53 to 55% Hardness —80 to 100 BrineIl (500 Kg. load) Meets specifications       —AWS A5.7, ERCuSi-A Procedures When using either TIG or carbon arc process, the DC welding machine should be set on straight polarity. An AC welder may be used but it will not be as smooth. The base metal is heated with the arc and the alloy is flowed onto the surface at the same time; no flux is required. Do not permit the base metal to become overheated (do not exceed 150°F (66°C)). Stringer beads are recommended rather than weave beads.
