All-State® No. 4 IMP* Premium Electrode for Welding Thin Sections of Cast Iron AC or DC Reverse Polarity (Electrode +) - All Position General Characteristics All-State® No. 4 IMP is designed to give the ultimate in dense, non-cracking, porosity free welds on thin cast iron sections and when the maximum in machinability is required. Typical Applications Repairing breaks and cracks in thin sections of cast iron, filling holes and defects in castings, and building up missing or worn parts. Qualities Tensile strength—up to 50,000 psi (35.16 kgs/mm2) Yield strength—up to 40,000 psi (28.13 kgs/mm2) Elongation in 2"—2 to 4% Hardness—175 to 225 BrineIl Deposit—magnetic Color match—good Procedures Preheat is not necessary but warming to 400°F (204°C) will produce a softer and more machinable deposit. All-State® Chamfer Rod may be used to “V” the joint before welding. Remove all dirt, grease, and foreign material by grinding. A medium arc should be used with stringer beads or narrow weave beads.
